collageartBy the way: this self-portrait art contest will not focus on the BEST young artists. It will instead focus on the creative use of materials (like reusing recycled items in a creative way), unique creations, and most importantly kids: we want to see you smile. Show us your teeth! Take pride in yourself.Be sure to include, on the back of the art, your child’s name, age and phone number. $1 should be placed in an envelope with your child’s name on it.

Here are the two nonprofit websites:

1. Studio 84 –
Did you know that “Art” benefits all of us? It enhances self-image and self-esteem. For some, art is a vocation…for others, a hobby. But regardless of a person’s motivation for creating artwork, there is one aspect of art which you might not have considered: creating art has a therapeutic benefit.
Studio 84 provides fully accessible opportunities in the arts to enrich peoples lives by focusing on the strengths and abilities of the individual, by encouraging the creative voice with self directed activities, thus, inspiring self-worth, pride, confidence and acceptance. By looking closely at each student’s abilities and skill level, individual instruction is provided.  Whatever challenges they may bring with them a creative solution will be sought to nurture their inner creative needs and provide every opportunity for success.  Students are challenged and encouraged to grow at their own pace. Read more about their mission on their website. Take a look at these videos and information on how the arts can transform lives: BRAIN INJURY, MENTAL ILLNESS, MY LEFT FOOT (an artist with Cerebral Palsy), MUSICIAN WITH CEREBAL PALSY, TINY DANCERS,

2. Friends of the Children – Medical, Dental, and Health Educational Missions to Haiti –
toothbrushesIs a group out of Delavan, WI, that goes to Haiti two times each year. They set up a clinic for a week and provide free medical and dental treatments, plus, they go to local schools and teach the kids how to properly brush their teeth.

Mission: Our Mission is to provide caring response to the medical, dental, physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the sick, destitute and impoverished children and adults of underdeveloped countries by our volunteer members giving of their time, talents and treasures. Our main goal with dental care is to create an education and prevention based program while attempting to intercept potentially life threatening oral infections and oral pathology.

Thanks so much!
